REMIND and the Future of Traditional Sports and Games

Traditional Sports and Games are deeply embedded in the cultural history of communities across Europe. They reflect local identities, collective memories, and social bonds that have been passed down through generations. However, many of these practices are at risk of fading away due to modernization, lack of documentation, and limited visibility. The REMIND project was created to respond to this challenge by recognizing Traditional Sports and Games not as relics of the past, but as living practices that can shape the future.

REMIND reimagines traditional games as powerful tools for education, inclusion, and community development. Rather than focusing solely on preservation, the project explores how these practices can actively contribute to social cohesion, well-being, and regional vitality. This involves documenting games, creating shared frameworks, and supporting grassroots organizations in their efforts to keep traditions alive.

A central aspect of REMIND is its focus on volunteers and local practitioners who often carry invaluable knowledge but lack formal training or resources. Through digital tools, training materials, and collaborative networks, REMIND empowers these actors to professionalize their work while staying true to their cultural roots.

At a European level, REMIND fosters cooperation between organizations from different countries, encouraging the exchange of experiences and best practices. This transnational approach strengthens the recognition of Traditional Sports and Games as a shared European heritage. By connecting tradition with innovation, REMIND ensures that these practices remain relevant, dynamic, and accessible for future generations.
