QRiosity Park

The QRiosity Park project, titled “QRiosity Park: A QR-based treasure hunt to discover eco-knowledge in urban parks” is an Erasmus+ Cooperation partnerships in school education (Project No. 2024-1-EL01-KA220-SCH-000244241). As an innovative educational initiative, QRiosity Park is designed to bridge the growing distance between youth and nature. Indeed, in today’s digital world, students spend more time in front of a screen than outdoors, a trend particularly evident among urban youth who have limited access to natural environments. To address this, the project leverages technology not as a distraction, but as a getaway to bring students closer to the natural world thanks to their surrounding urban green spaces.

The primary focus of QRiosity Park is centred on primary and secondary school educators and students, who represent the core target of this initiative. Beyond this group, the project engages a broader ecosystem of stakeholders, including public authorities, foundations, tech companies, local communities, municipalities and businesses. Crucially, it targets educational policymakers to advocate for the long-term integration of outdoor learning into formal school curricula.

By reconnecting students with nature, QRiosity Park aims to foster environmental awareness while equipping youth with vital 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, collaboration and active citizenship. To achieve this without adding to the cognitive or administrative workload of educators, the project delivers two main outcomes:

  • Teacher Empowerment: the development of a dedicated Handbook and Toolkit designed to help teachers implement outdoor lessons seamlessly.
  • Interactive Learning: a specialized, user-friendly QR-based mobile application allowing users to scan QR codes in urban green spaces (UGSs) and follow pre-designed educational treasure hunts.

Within the consortium, IDL is responsible for the technical development and user interface design of the mobile application, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable experience for the target group. IDL also leads the interactive digital content creation, the QR code integration across partner countries, and the translation of the platform.

Furthermore, IDL drives the platform’s conceptualization by leading an online hackathon focusing on defining the platform’s design, gamification, user flow, and educational content structure. Through these initiatives, IDL ensures that the gameplay aligns with school curricula, creating an immersive treasure hunt experience. Finally, IDL is in charge of hosting the Transnational ‘Train-the-Trainers’ session.
