We are proud to present iStream, an Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership project dedicated to transforming how journalism and communication are taught across European universities. In an increasingly digital and experience-driven media landscape, the iStream project aims to equip educators and students with the skills and tools needed to embrace immersive journalism—a powerful approach to storytelling through virtual, augmented, and mixed reality technologies.
About the Project
iStream responds to a growing need: the lack of structured academic resources and competences related to immersive technologies in journalism and media education. Funded under the KA220- HED action of the Erasmus+ programme, iStream brings together academic and professional partners to co-design a new educational offer that integrates immersive practices directly into higher education curricula.
A New Professional Profile
At the heart of the project is the creation of a new professional profile: the immersive journalist. This role blends traditional journalistic values—truth, accuracy, ethics—with new capacities for designing, producing, and evaluating stories in immersive environments. The immersive journalist is a critical thinker, a tech-savvy storyteller, and a pioneer of audience engagement through interactive formats.
What iStream Delivers
The project offers a comprehensive and modular package of educational resources:
iStream Competence Framework – defines the core knowledge, skills, and attitudes required of an immersive journalist.
Curriculum and Syllabus – designed to support the delivery of a one-year study track on immersive journalism, adaptable to different university systems.
Lab Guidelines – practical guidance for setting up and managing an Immersive Journalism Lab within academic institutions.
Training Course – a blended learning path combining theoretical background with technical practice in immersive formats.
Teaching Resources – materials to support higher education staff in delivering and assessing immersive journalism courses.
