Virtual Auditorium

Virtual Auditorium – Enhancing Digital Education through AI-Driven Interaction

Virtual Auditorium is a Forward-Looking Erasmus+ initiative coordinated by TU Berlin that aims to revolutionize the quality of online teaching. Recognizing that digital learning often lacks the dynamic feedback of a physical classroom, the project is developing an AI-supported tool integrated into Learning Management Systems (LMS) like Moodle. This tool evaluates and enhances how learners engage with online content, providing educators with real-time data to improve student participation and learning outcomes.
Key Pillars & Focus Areas

  • Quality of Interaction (QoI): The project introduces a measurable “QoI” metric, using AI to analyze how students interact with digital materials and each other, helping teachers identify where learners are struggling or disengaging.
  • LMS Integration: A central output is the development of a specialized Moodle plugin that allows these advanced analytical tools to be used within existing educational infrastructures without requiring entirely new platforms.
  • Personalized Learning: Utilizing AI to help personalize content delivery based on different learner types, ensuring that digital education is inclusive and effective for diverse groups.
  • Evidence-Based Policy: Data and results from the project are designed to feed into the European Digital Education Hub, contributing to a broader European framework for quality assurance in digital teaching.

Expected Impact

  • Strengthened Cooperation: Bridging the gap between the Higher Education sector and EdTech companies to create human-centric educational tools.
  • Improved Retention: By giving educators the tools to understand “interaction quality,” the project aims to reduce dropout rates in fully digital or blended courses.
  • Digital Excellence: Supporting the EU’s Digital Education Action Plan by providing concrete, data-informed methods to elevate the standard of virtual instruction across Europe.

“Virtual Auditorium moves beyond simple video conferencing by creating an environment where ‘interaction’ is not just a byproduct, but a measurable and improvable component of the learning journey.”
