LIVECoVET – European Centre of Vocational Excellence in Sustainable Livestock Farming

LIVECoVET is a strategic initiative funded under the Erasmus+ program to establish a network of Centres of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) across eight European countries (including Belgium, Greece, Portugal, and Italy). The project addresses the urgent need for sustainability in the livestock sector by bridging the gap between traditional farming practices and the modern requirements of the European Green Deal and digital transformation.

Key Pillars & Focus Areas

  • Green & Digital Skills: Developing vocational curricula that integrate precision livestock farming (PLF), waste management, and carbon footprint reduction.
  • Knowledge Exchange: Creating a transnational platform for VET providers, farmers, and agribusinesses to share innovative methodologies tailored to local geographical and climatic contexts.
  • Needs Analysis: Mapping the specific skills gaps within the European livestock industry to ensure training remains market-relevant and forward-looking.
  • Collaborative Ecosystems: Strengthening the links between regional VET institutions and the private sector to foster a “skills ecosystem” that supports lifelong learning.

Expected Impact

  • Sectoral Resilience: Equipping the agricultural workforce with the tools to navigate climate change and environmental regulations.
  • Innovation Adoption: Increasing the use of smart sensors and data analytics on farms to improve animal welfare and resource efficiency.
  • Policy Influence: Developing policy recommendations to align national agricultural training with broader EU sustainability goals.

“LIVECoVET leverages the diversity of European agricultural practices as a catalyst for innovation, ensuring that the livestock sector is both environmentally sustainable and economically viable.”
